Pascal Vermeeren

Pascal is born and raised in Amsterdam, where he received his master’s degree in Molecular Sciences from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2017. Directly after, he pursued his fascination for theoretical chemistry by doing a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr. F. Matthias Bickelhaupt and Dr. Trevor A. Hamlin in the TheoCheM group at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In 2022, he successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled (Astro)Chemistry: From Molecules to Reactions with the distinction Cum Laude. Currently, Pascal is working as a postdoctoral fellow in the groups of Prof. Dr. F. Matthias Bickelhaupt and Dr. Trevor A. Hamlin, where he works on a wide variety of topics in chemistry, ranging from understanding the nature of the chemical bond to elucidating the mechanism behind the reactivity of molecules and surfaces. Besides working on the frontiers of theoretical chemical research, he is also actively involved in teaching different courses in the B.Sc. and M.Sc. Chemistry and the B.Sc. Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Universiteit van Amsterdam, such as Quantum Chemistry, Advanced Molecular Orbital Theory, and Computational (Pharmaco) Chemistry.

In his spare time, he enjoys playing and watching football. Besides that, he loves watching horror movies, especially b-horror movies from the 70s and 80s.
