Martin Luff
Postdoc
Martin grew up in the village of Arberg in rural northern Bavaria, near Nürnberg. After finishing school, he moved to Würzburg, where he pursued his passion for science and began studying chemistry. His research has focused on molecular inorganic chemistry and catalysis, including work with Prof. Dr. T. Rovis (Columbia University, New York) and Prof. Dr. U. Radius (JMU Würzburg), where he completed his PhD.
After his doctoral studies, Martin was awarded a fellowship through the Walther Benjamin program of the German Research Foundation (DFG), which enabled him to join the TheoChem group and move to Amsterdam. Transitioning from an experimental background to theoretical chemistry, he is now investigating metalaromaticity and metal–metal bonding using density functional theory (DFT).
In his free time, Martin enjoys climbing, playing squash, and cycling. Since moving to the Netherlands, he has been making the most of the extensive Dutch bike network and is already planning long-distance bike trips to explore more of the Netherlands.
